Doping in Sports (Mr.Ranu's Topic)

So, Mr. Ranu picked this topic, not me.
As everyone probably knows already, many athletes use drugs during sports and activities. The main one being steroids. Once you use drugs to make yourself "better" in whatever sport you're doing, I don't think you can consider yourself an athlete anymore. You're using an illegal substance to increase your abilities, so since they're not actually your talents, you're not actually an athlete. People have been trying to use illegal drugs in the Olympics alot as well. Apparently, Japan or China (can't remember which one) has started injecting their athletes with drugs at a young age so that no one will be able to find traces or proof of it once they reach the age when they're old enough to qualify in the Olympics.
I don't know what else to write, so yeah.

Report Cards

Okay, so for my over-all effort in PE11 within the last 6 weeks, I think I have done very well in my oppinion. I've shown up for every class and I always have a change of gym strip (I've forgotten shoes twice, but I still participate.) My effort tends to change depending on the activity. Personally, I think my effort in all of our fitness activities has been to the best of my ability, I'm in PE because I want to improve my fitness...and when it comes to games, I will always participate and put effort in unless it's soccer. But, soccer is just a sport that I am unable to play, no matter what. It's embaressing. But other than that, my over-all effort is very good. My respect for others is better than most people's in my class. I don't stand around and laugh at people or make fun of others, it's either I'm quiet, or I'll encourage others. I think my main areas of weakness would include: upper body strength (push ups are really hard for me to do), anything to do with my feet (like soccer), running for long amounts of time at a high speed, or sprinting...I'm also not very good at inclined runs such as the hill run. My areas of strength would include lower body strength (I think I have strong legs), longer runs at my own pace, activities that invlolve using your arm (such as baseball, dodgeball, handball...etc.) and workouts such as the 30 seconds interval exercises and the beep test. Like I've said before, my main goal in PE is to improve my fitness and maybe lose weight. One of my goals has always been to run an 8 on the 25-30 minute run.

Excuses

Everyone has days when they just don't feel like giving their all. That happens once in awhile with me, but I try not to make up excuses to get out of PE. What would be the point in taking PE this year, if I was just going to make up excuses every time I didn't want to do something. If there's a time when I really don't want to do something just 'cause, I think I'd rather tell you than make up excuses.
When we did the 30 minute run, I only did 6 laps. BUT, that is an improvement because last year, I would usually do 3 and sometimes 4. I don't think I was pushing myself as hard as I could go though and I feel like if I tried harder, I would have been able to get 7. That will be my goal next time.

Self Regulated

Up until now, I have definitely been improving. The beginning of the year was a real challenge considering I hadn't done any hard fitness during the Summer..like, the hillrun was the hardest thing ever and I'm sure it would still be hard for me now, but I would most likely do a waaaaayyy better job. All together I feel much healthier and I can't wait to see where I'll be at the end of the year.

Grouse Grind

The Grouse Grind was very entertaining...This was my second time being on a mountain. I was able to make it half way with no problems, but I made it to the halfway point in 55 minutes so I had to turn around. I was really dissapointed because I wanted to get to the top and ride the gondala down!! Although it wasn't super challenging up to the half way mark, I know it would have gotten harder past there. I want to go back soon and get all the way to the top! :)

Capture the flag/Pond run/Community run

Capture the flag this week was actually really fun! Other than the fact that 95% of our class is boys and there's no way I can keep up with their running, but just playing defense was fun. I would have rather played with flags than footballs because I can't throw a football and it's harder to contribute to the game.
When we did the pond run, I was able to run for 20 minutes straight and I would have been able to do 30, but I decided to take a brake and once I took a break, it was hard to keep running for another 10 minutes straight.
The community run was a complete fail. I made it just past Cambridge elementary and then totally bailed on the curb. Jerry and I thought it would be a better idea to just turn around. Although it was painful, I still pushed myself to jog back to the school rather than walk.

First Week Jitters

My main goal for P.E. 11 would be to lose weight and strengthen my arms because I'm a pitcher.
The hillrun, I can honestly say was the hardest thing I've ever done in P.E. I find running on a slant extremely hard. But I was able to do the first 2 sets and then once to the top.
When we did our first beep test, I got 7.4. My highest is 8.2 so I was pretty dissapointed with my score.
